SHF#23 Surprise, Surprise!

I have sugar cookie dough. Tons and tons of sugar cookie dough. I made circus cookies the other day and had a ton of cookie dough left over from that(and that was after making 180 animal cookies). So I wrapped it up in to 4 balls and stored it in the fridge vowing to do something with it later this week. Well my dough is mulitplying, I am quite sure of it. I keep going to the fridge to see if I can hear Barry White music in the background because my sugar cookie dough is multiplying. No lie, I have made two more things using the dough….and yet the same amount seems to still be there. It is never going to go away. Perhaps my sugar cookie dough is like a lizards tail, pull some off, and more just grows back.
Anyway, in needing to use up some of my magic, reproducing dough I decided to do something with it for SHF. This months theme is Surprise, Surprise. I will admit that I went pretty boring with this one but they are quite tasty. Buttery sugar cookie dough with creamy Nutella is definately a winning combo.
Nutella Ravioli Cookies
1 (18 ounce) package of refrigerated sugar cookie dough(for the time challenged)
or
18 ounces fresh sugar cookie dough-this is what I used(if you need a recipe look at my circus cookies)
1/2 cup Nutella spread
3 TBSP white chocolate chips
3 TBSP chocolate chips
1. Preheat oven to 350F
2. Roll out cookie dough to about a 1/4 inch
thickness.
3. Using a cookie cutter or a glass dipped in flour, cut out rounds. (I used a 2 3/4 inch round cookie cutter.).
4. Using a piping bag or plastic bag with the end snipped off, pipe about 1/2 teaspoon of Nutella into the center of each round.
5. Fold rounds over to create half moon shapes and gently seal edges.
6. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 9-10 minutes.
7. Remove to racks and cool completely.
8. When cookies are completely cooled, melt chocolate chips in microwave (about 1 minute.).
9. Remove and using a fork, drizzle chocolate over cookies.
10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 with white chocolate chips.
THIS RECIPE COMES FROM MY NEIGHBOR WHO MADE THESE FOR YEARS BUT A VERY FULL OF HERSELF WOMAN WOULD LIKE CREDIT SO LET’S ALL GIVE HER SOME. So these cookies came from Here where my neighbor must have stolen it from even though she has been making them longer than what the recipe is dated.

They look delicious to me! I love Nutella. It’s one of my year’s best discoveries.

You have a way of taking a food’s appeal to a whole new level. Take this cookie, it looks delicious enough on its own, but when you split it and show the strechy drizzle of chocolate on top and the gooey nutella inside, oh my, it’s a whole different story. Thanks Peabody, now i have to wipe the drool off my keyboard.

Ah Peabody, you have me SO laughing! When I first moved to St Louis I hosted a cookie swap with lots of the new friends I’d made. There were prizes for the prettiest cookie, the most healthful cookie. The cookie that won the “best of all” prize was two layers of cookie, baked with jam between. I couldn’t figure out why my friend Tammy was so reluctant to share the recipe. Turns out, she’d used frozen cookie dough! (And hmmm … she lives in Seattle now, maybe she reads you?! Hi Tam!) Anyway thanks for the contribution to the Surprise Inside edition of Sugar High Friday! Look for the round-up next weekend. AK

Wow, these look great. But then how could anything involving Nutella be anything but? I’m doing SHF this time, too, only I still don’t know what I’m making! I don’t ever make sweets, so I’m at a bit of a loss. I hope whatever it is turns out as well as your “ravioli.”

Anything that is filled with Nutella is far from boring. Especially when the something looks as beautiful and delicious as these cookies. Wonderful!

OH MY GOD, how yummy looking. Your photos are so good…the close-up format and the focus on details like crumbs and oozing frosting is just perfection.

What do you mean, “boring”? These look ridiculously good. And the ravioli idea is so cute. I think you’ve got a good thing going with that dough of yours–it looks so soft and buttery. I love when cookie dough is just slightly underbaked.

I’m usually a bit too time-challenged (or, ok, maybe it’s just ‘lazy’) to do the drizzle-the-top-for-effect part of any recipe…but your cookies look so beautiful, I’m going to have to re-think my position!

Peabody, you take the words “food porn” to an entirely new level. I can’t wait to try this new application for one of my favorite food addictions.

I made these this weekend and they were a hit….so yummy!! I have a question though (I’m definitely a novice when it comes to cooking…especially baking. How did you keep you cookies so “fluffy”? Mine, although they tasted wonderful, ended up like pancakes with a small “blob” in the center.

thank your for answering my question about the butter! yes it is a lot of butter but so worth it!!!! it makes quite a few cookies, a large batch, and i wouldnt have had it any other way because these cookies disappeared so fast. i took them to a potluck and they were a hit! i do a lot of baking when i have free time and these cookies are by far in my top 5, I’v been looking for a good recipe that utilizes “Nutella” and this hit it right on the nose.
    Thank you so much!
