Sweetie Pie…

So I ran across a picture the other day. It’s of a cactus staring at a balloon with hearts between them. Below were the words Impossible Love.

First off I don’t think it’s impossible for a cactus to love a balloon, if we get passed the whole inanimate object thing. They can love each other, they just can’t touch. Well, they can touch, but that’s pretty bad news for the balloon. And well, if the cactus is crappy in bed, then the balloon just went and died for nothing. 😉

Odd as it may seem that photo got me to thinking about my friend B who is having a bit of trouble in the love department as of late. See, she is in love. Awesome. That person is in love with her. Awesome. Except that everyone feels the need to chime in and judge them. There were a handful of us (yes, me) who did not care they were together. When the gossip mongrels came a knocking to tell me the news, which I already knew because I was friends with her, to tell me that she was dating an older man, much older (yes, she is more than legal)…they were disappointed in my response. They wanted the horror stricken look. The judgment finger and the I can’t believe it. But what they got was, “I know, they are so cute together”. And they are. Her parents want them broken up. Why? Because of a number. I can assure you that though I may be 37, I have the maturity of a 12 year old…and sadly usually a 12 year old boy. 🙂

Love is hard enough sometimes, you don’t need people chiming in on who you should love. How you should love. When you should love. There is not enough love in the world, so when you or someone else finds it, support it people. Don’t judge it. (removes self from soapbox).

If it’s not bad enough she gets bagged on for her heart choices, but the rumor is that because B and I are friends who play hockey we therefore must also be lesbian lovers (which technically if it were true we would be bisexual…just saying). Yes, there are many women who are lesbian and who play hockey. There are many who are not. Either way it doesn’t matter. But apparently because we are friends and can stand around and laugh together, we must  BE together. So as jokes to this we have a pet name for each other…love muffin. Some people are not fans of the pet names. I am. I find them endearing. Or maybe because they are usually always sugar related. Honey. Sweetie. Sweetie Pie (hence today’s dessert). Honey Bun. Love Muffin. Love Nugget. Sugar Lips. Stud Muffin. Lots of food. 🙂 Personally I think I am more of a Cuddle Bunny than any of the sweet based ones, since most people don’t think of me as sweet, and Sarcastic Bitch isn’t really all that endearing. 😀

So in honour of pet names, I made a Sweetie Pie.
This one is basically a chocolate chip cookie baked into a pie. Except I used half chocolate chips and half Peanut Butter M&M’s. You can use whatever pie crust you want. You can even use a store bought one…I wont judge. 🙂 This is about as simple as you can get. You could throw in just about anything you wanted in this would be my guess and it would be tasty. Well, almost anything.

Sweet. Simple. The way love should be. Make one for your Sweetie Pie today.

Love is All You Need Peanut Butter “Sweetie” Pie

1 recipe pie crust (that will fit one 9-inch pie)
1 cup granulated Sugar
¾ cup all-purpose flour
3 TBSP peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup Peanut Butter M&M’s
2/3 cup milk chocolate morsels

Preheat oven to 350°.
2.On a lightly floured surface, roll pie crust to ¼ -inch thickness. Transfer and press into a 9-inch pie plate. Crimp edge, if desired.

In a medium bowl, combine sugar, flour, peanut butter, and butter, mixing well.

Add eggs, vanilla, Peanut Butter M&M’s, and chocolate morsels. Transfer filling to prepared pie crust.

Bake until firm in the middle, approximately 45 minutes.

People need to stop judging and just spread the love. Sheesh. What ever happened to the whole “if you don’t have anything nice to say” thing.

This pie looks awesome. I may have to change my nickname to sweetie pie just to give props to it.

There’s 16 years between my husband and I, at first we got a few comments, until people saw us together and realised that it worked for us. With new people we occasionally get an odd look, and once or twice people have thought he’s my father.
If you love each other grab it with both hands and don’t let go, irregardless of what anybody says!

Love the sweetie pie, going to have to try it out. I love the bright colours inside it, it makes it look so interesting.

Reminds me of a pie I made that had chocolate chips and hazelnuts from the Baked cookbook, Tuscaloosa Tollhouse Pie. It reminded me of a cookie in pie form!

Just for the record, my husband is 15 years older than me and we’ve been happily married for 20 years and together for 30! Yes we lived together for 10 years. I thought it was cool to live “in sin” and defy society for a while. He’s amazing! He cooks for me, he shops for me, he takes care of the house, and is now a Stay at Home Dad for our 12-year old daughter. Please tell B to just rock on.

Oh! And on “Diveristy Day” (at the office), I held hands with a girlfriend colleague just to mess with people. It was a riot.

Thank you for the Sweetie Pie recipe – it looks divine.

People can be mean… and when they are, it’s usually because something is missing or wrong with their own life. It’s always easier to gossip and judge than it is to fix things in your own house. I hope your friends don’t let the unhappy and mean people take away from what they have together. Also.. love the pie, and the pie plate.

This post needs Dion Warwick singing Burt Bacharach in the background. We’re all over nicknames here and having been one of those on the other end of being judged about my heart — (my husband is 7 years younger than I am) suffice it to say we’ve been married 22 years. With nicknames. And a slice o’ that pie. 🙂

I’m a big supporter of love, especially when I’m party to it 😉 Age ain’t nuthin but a number – though I doubt a 12 year old boy would say that two people are “cute together”…

I love your attitude, and I’m sure that your friend does, too. It’s a hoot that you call each other lovey-dovey nicknames – great way to tease the ones who would judge you or her. And this dessert? Completely over the top. Saving it for one of those PMS-give-me-sugar-right-this-minute days!

As far as older men go, both of my sisters have married older men. My one B-I-L is 20 years older than my sister, the other is 15 years older. They are both perfect matches for my sisters, wouldn’t have it any other way. I, on the other hand have married someone my age…it just worked out that way and he is my perfect match. The heart wants what the heart wants 🙂

Here is a recent discussion between my 3 year old grandson and myself upon him seeing my cat walk across the room:

    N- “Oh,she’s so cute!”
    Grandma- “So are you.”
    N- “No I’m not.”
Grandma-“You’re not? Then what are you?”
    N- “I’m a sweetie pie.”

Truer words could not be spoken.

    Thanks for the recipe.

Love the pie! And love the sentiment that inspired it. You’re so right — if two people are happy, it doesn’t much matter what anyone else thinks. And truth be told, they wouldn’t listen to the criticism anyway. When you’re that smitten, you only see things through rose-colored glasses. If it’s not meant to be, it’ll eventually peter out. But if it is fated, then those two will definitely have the last laugh while enjoying many slices of that Sweetie Pie. 😉

Hey what is the problem with younger women liking older men? We usually know how to treat a women (with respect) and treat them to some of the nicer things in life since we are already established in our careers. I could see some women just getting tired of beer and a video. We can treat you to a play/musical and a nice dinner out without getting hammered.
