Attention Wal-Mart Shoppers…

Dear Shoppers of Wal-Mart-

Washington State adopted a new law as of June 1st that allows certain establishments, Wal-Mart included to sell hard liquor. This however comes with a large tax. This tax was discussed in detail. And while the tax went up it seems to be costing me about the same as when I went to the liquor store except now I can buy vodka after 7pm at night without having to go driving all around.

There is even a sign that tells you about the tax. So please do not freak out on the cashier who has nothing to do with the tax. Neither does the manager that you demanded to see. This doesn’t make it become any cheaper. You either want your vodka or you don’t. And from the looks of you…you did want your vodka…at 10:30am.

By the time I got to the poor cashier she was yelled at by all three people in front of me. I don’t think she had ever been happier to see someone just buying oven cleaner.

Something to remember is that often the employee has very little to do with what is going on. This happens a lot when I am scorekeeping. I don’t give the guy a penalty but they bitch and moan and blame me as if I have been sending mental messages to the refs telling them to send the guy to the box for tripping.

95% of the time your food is taking forever has nothing to do with your waitress/waiter; it has to do with the kitchen. Feel free to complain to management but don’t take it out on your waitresses tip. 🙁

This is the week of candy. Whopper bread pudding and now Rolos. I’ve been on a BIG Rolo kick as of late. I made these for my hockey team who ate them up quickly and were pro the Rolos.

Oatmeal Rolo Bars

2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
10 ounces (2 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup caramel bits
1 package mini Rolos (if you can’t find another half cup chocolate chips and caramel bits)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 9-by-13- inch baking pan with cooking spray.

Stir together oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and the salt in a large bowl. Blend in butter with a fork or your fingertips until mixture resembles coarse meal; press half of mixture onto bottom of lined pan.

Bake until just set and starting to color around edges, about 20 minutes. Let cool in pan on a wire rack 5 minutes.

Sprinkle crust with chocolate chips, caramel bits, and mini Rolos.

Top with remaining crumb mixture.

Bake until pale golden, 20 to 25 minutes. Let cool completely in pan before cutting into squares.

Oh man, I have not had rolos in decades. Now I am going to have to find me some minis! And those poor cashiers; whenever I see someone being a clod to them in front of me I try to be extra nice to them when it’s my turn to check out.

Actually um… how would Rolos fare in Rice Crispy Treats?

The reason I suck at tipping is because I’m poor. The way I see it, the waitresses have a job, I don’t, so I can tip poorly. If they really give excellent service, I do usually give extra, even though my bank balance cries.

I always feel awful for cashiers, etc. and how they get treated…. and then there are the opposite- the RUDE, ignorant cashiers who treat customers like crap. Customer service is so crazy these days, but so are the customers! 😉

    THESE now…. look great!

I spent years as a waitress or bartender making — $2.63 an hour (base server wage) I tip well and breathe deep before I complain

As a former cashier … who is also a former waitress … and is now a lawyer (yes, everything is our fault…) thanks for this!

I remember once at the grocery store a man came up to me waving a package of ham and yelling at me because it was mislabelled. The worst is when the manager came she yelled at me too, to look good to the guy – people: your cashiers are abused … don’t add to it.

    Thanks! 🙂

I always try to be the nicest I can be to anyone who is serving me, whether it be the casheir or the waitstaff. and I always say “have a nice day/good rest of your day”. I think it throws them off though, haha.

Anyways, these look delicious!I saw the first picture with the caramel flowing out of one of the chopped rolo peices. mmmmm. I like it when delicious things ooze out of chocolate 🙂

YES!! As a former waitress I was always blamed for not cooking a burger long enough, over cooking fries, food too greasy.. Come on people! 🙂 I like to tip well because I know that my server may get accused of cooking someone’s food wrong later in the day.

I used to work in retail, someone once threatened to shoot me because I wouldn’t refund them money on a used video game. Good times :). So 99% of the time I try to give cashiers or whomeever the benefit of the doubt. Customer service is pretty thankless.
When it comes to tipping, I like to be exceedingly generous (if it warrants it), but I do it for selfish reasons because it makes me feel good.
I have recently rediscovered a love for Rolos, in part because of McDonalds Rolo McFlurry 🙂 and these Rolo bars look pretty fantastic. I wish I had some Rolos right now.

I make it a personal goal to look for 10 things to complement people on every day. Only after I am finished with my complements can I complain, and I only give myself one complaint each day, so it’d better be important. Most of the time this puts me in the right frame of mind that I never get around to the complaining.

Oh yum yum yum! I want this so badly right now!

I am completely astounded by how poorly some people treat cashiers and waitresses. I try to make up for their rudeness by being extra cheery or leaving a larger tip. It makes me feel good to possibly brighten someone’s day 🙂

I had a Rolo McFlurry the other day because I was near a McDonalds and craving something cold and sweet. It was the first time I had Rolos in YEARS. These look infinitely better than that McFlurry! SO going to make these for a Flag Day barbecue next weekend.

Wow these look good! Too bad my husband doesn’t like oatmeal or caramel. I might have to try these anyway.

Ooh, I love rolos so much but can’t buy them because I’ll eat the entire bag. In one sitting.

Wait. What? You couldn’t buy liquor after 7? Oh Peabody come visit me, we can buy all sorts of alcohol at any time around here! LOL

Off course I think I own just about any kind of alcohol in my house anyway. For cooking. Yeah, it’s all for cooking.
