What’s New At Safeway

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Safeway, Inc. for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

So Safeway (or Vons, Pavilions, CARRS, Tom Thumb, Randalls where you live) asked me to come see what’s new at Safeway and to talk about my experience at the store. This wasn’t too hard of a task as I already shop at my Safeway weekly.

I like my local Safeway because it’s bright and clean, it’s laid out in a way that makes sense to me (how foods are grouped together), the produce is fresh, they have a killer floral department, the bathroom is always clean (I seem to need to go every time I shop), and friendly people work there. My experience this time around was no different…and the floral department had tulips which made me extra happy.

I was to seek out some of the new items Safeway is carrying. They have “NEW” tags to alert as to what is new to the store. I picked the V8® Vegetable Blends and Fruit Juice in Carrot Mango, it’s a sneaky way to get your kiddos (and adults too) to get their veggies in. They also had a Healthy Greens flavor which is Spinach, Yellow Carrots, Apples, and Pineapple. Purple Power which is Purple Carrots, Beets and Apple. And Golden Goodness which is Sweet Potatoes, Yellow Carrots, Orange Carrots, and Orange (I almost got this one too). It never hurts to get a little more veggies in your diet.

We were out of mayo so I decided to give the new Best Food Mayonnaise superior squeeze bottle a try. You are probably saying squeeze bottle mayo is nothing new and you are correct. But this is a new design to help you maximize the squeeze and leave little wasted mayo when you are at the bottom. We haven’t made it to the bottom of the squeeze bottle yet so I’m not sure if it’s maximize or not but I like the new cap it has on it.

Then off to the coffee section to buy some of the new Starbuck’s® Iced K-cup® Packs (I got the vanilla flavor). I was curious as to what makes it be ice coffee…well you actually brew it over ice (aka you put ice in the coffee cup). It tasted like vanilla iced coffee. It’s a perfect pick up to add to your K-cup collection for summer.

And lastly I picked up Breyers® Gelato Indulgences™. We had already tried the Tiramisu flavor but they have come out with Chocolate Caramel (purchased), Cappuccino (purchased), Mint Chocolate, and Strawberry Truffle. It is definitely an indulgence. I think it’s way creamier than just ice cream.

All the products I got are pictured here:

I chose to make a recipe using the Breyers® Gelato Indulgences™. I love coffee and toffee together but I also could not buy the Chocolate Caramel flavor because duh, chocolate and caramel, so I decided to combine both. This is a super yummy and super easy dessert to throw together. I’m not sure what it is about molding desserts that make them seem more elegant, but they just seem more fancy. If you don’t want to make a terrine you could always buy a chocolate cookie crust (pre-made) and put the ice cream in there.

Be sure to check out and discover what’s new at your local Safeway (Vons, Pavilions, CARRS, Tom Thumb, Randalls).

Yes I was compensated for this post. Working with Safeway was an easy choice since I already shop there. As always the opinions, words, and bad grammar are all mine. Please consider supporting those companies that choose to work with this blog.

Cappuccino Chocolate Caramel Toffee Gelato Terrine

1 (28.5 oz.) container Breyer’s® Gelato Indulgences™ Cappuccino flavor, softened

1 (28.5 oz.) container Breyer’s® Gelato Indulgences™ Chocolate Caramel flavor, softened

1/3 cup Magic Shell topping (you can make your own but I don’t like the coconut flavor)

10 Oreo cookies, crushed

2 Heath bars, chopped

Line an 8-x-5-inch loaf pan with plastic wrap, allowing 3 inches to extend over sides.

Scoop one scoop of cappuccino flavor, then chocolate caramel, then cappuccino, pressing the gelato down into the loaf mold after each scoop. Keep adding until you reached the top of the loaf pan. Smooth the top.

Top with crushed Oreos, pressing them into the gelato.

Freeze for 4 hours or until firm.

Lift the gelato terrine from the pan, using the plastic wrap as handles.

Invert on to a serving plate. Discard plastic wrap.

Top with Magic Shell topping and Heath bar pieces (move quickly as the topping will firm up fast once it hits the gelato).

Slice to serve.

Serves 8.

I don’t have a Safeway near me, and I don’t have that gelato near me… I’m missing out! Haha 😀 That gelato = perfection.

What a great simple summer desert. This would be great to look like you spent a lot of time making but easy to do late in the afternoon for dinner. I can’t wait to try this!

We don’t have Safeway in the South (at least not in north Alabama), but if they have clean bathrooms I would totally shop there 🙂

I love desserts that you can make ahead of time, and they still taste delicious when served.

HUGE supporter of Safeway around these parts Peabody! I am actually embarassed at how many times during the week I am in the store. You are correct – fantastic florals, great product selection, friendly staff and clean restrooms!

Wow. I thought you were reviewing a premade item at Safeway when I first glanced at this because it looks so professionally done. It actually looks too good to eat, though I could be persuaded!

I have that same V8 in my fridge right now. So tasty! I feel like the healthfulness of that will balance the fact that I want to eat this whole terrine. Right? 😉

    Peabody,
Mr Squishy Face is so adorable. You’ll have so much fun with him.
This terrine looks delicious. My hubby wouldn’t like the coconut flavor either. What size heath bars did you use? If I were to use the fun size bars, how many would I need?
    Thanks.

@Annamaria- for the Heath bars there really is no set amount, it’s whatever you feel is good. I like a ton of toffee so I just kept chopping up Heath bars and throwing them on top. 🙂

Colby lived on that V8 fruit juice for a while. It was the only way we could get any nutrients in. And good grief on the ice cream terrine lady. Liam would be all over that.

I need this. Where’s my keys and wallet? The kids will be okay by themselves for a few minutes, right? Isn’t 7 old enough to be in charge for… No? Aw, man. Now I need to decide if this is worth packing the 7, 5, 2, and 1 year old into the van to take them to the grocery store (!!!) or if it is instead worth waiting (a few hours) for.

    Hmmm….that’s a tough call.

Ooh, yum! I usually default to Fred Meyer, as it’s closer, but I do make the occasional trip to Safeway, and the gelato looks like an excellent reason to do so.
