Harry and David Giveaway and Peppermint S’moreO’s…

So not only do you get an over the top recipe today I am doing something I rarely do…a giveaway. A pretty yummy one at that. As anyone who follows this blog knows I don’t do these very often as I have to believe in the company or product. So when Harry and David offered up a gift basket to give away to a reader I jumped at the chance! I love them and their products!!!

The hard part was picking which basket…you see what ever basket I picked for myself was the basket I get to give away. I looked and looked. And while I do love their pears this is the holiday season and I am a sucker for any and all things peppermint. I HAD to go with the Peppermint Glacier Tin Gift Basket.

What comes in that?

Peppermint Moose Munch Snack (10 oz.) (inhaled)
Yogurt-dipped Pretzels with peppermint stringing (6 oz.) (also inhaled)
3 Chocolate Peppermint Petits Fours enrobed in Dark Chocolate with red stringing (0.5 oz. each)
Peppermint Truffles (12 oz.)
2 Peppermint Frosted Chocolate Shortbread Cookies (1.6 oz. each)
Peppermint Bark (8 oz.)
3 Dark Chocolate Peppermint Cookies (1 oz. each)
Assorted Peppermint Chocolates (2.5 oz.)

You know you want it. And if you do this is what you need to do. You have between now and Tuesday December 4th 2012 at 9pm PST to enter. Sorry but contest is only open to US residents. How do you enter?

Leave a comment below telling me your favorite thing to make using peppermint.

If you would like more chances to win you can do the follow (make sure to come back and say you did so) :

THE CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

If you do win you could take the peppermint bark like I did and make these over the top Peppermint S’moreO’s. I had intended to use the candy cane Oreo’s…but couldn’t find them. So I used the Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Jo-Joe’s which worked just fine. If you can’t find the large peppermint marshmallows you can just use regular ones (I had to go all the way to Idaho to find mine!).

Peppermint S’moreO’s

20 Candy Cane Oreo’s or Trader Jo-Jo’s
20 Large Peppermint Marshmallows
8 oz melted milk chocolate
3 oz peppermint bark, chopped finely

Separate the Oreo into two parts.

Place marshmallow on side with frosting. Toast with a culinary torch.

Place the top back onto the cookie.

Pipe or spread milk chocolate onto the marshmallow to adhere it to the non-frosting side.

Top the cookie with more milk chocolate and then sprinkle peppermint bark on top.

My favorite peppermint thing is peppermint ice cream, but I don’t have an ice cream maker. My favorite thing to make would have to be peppermint brownies.

I’ve made a peppermint buttercream to put atop chocolate cupcakes and brownies that started as a recipe invented out of necessity. I didn’t have an peppermint extract, just starlight mints, so I ground them up as much as possible and sifted them, using the tiniest powdered bits to flavor the frosting and the bigger chunks to decorate. Yum!
